It's like.. a Cat face version of ''xD", for instance; :3 > x3, so I guess it's just a form of expression, but I usually just use '':3'' because I'm not that enthusiastic anymore.

i'm not sure its supposed to convey enthusiasm and happiness like XD though.

If we follow manga/anime expression convention x3 comes across as more of a "knocked out, acceptant but not that happy about it" expression. it could also mean "drunk" or similarly inebriated.

X-D usually means KO'ed or dead. :3 is the cat smiley. X3 is a dead cat, so i am guessing that to truly represent a dead cat you would have to say X333333333 because cats have 9 lives.

But then again it is probably people being too enthusiastic with their keyboard. Like when people go

))))))) or !!!!111!!!!!!one!!! etc.

Naw, usually people just go x333333333 because something was super cute, never seen people using it for other context really.
